Company Roots

The company was created in March 2011 by experienced project manager Rafael Delimata.

“Construction has been my passion since I received my first set of LEGO. After five years as a project manager for different construction companies I no longer wanted to cut corners to save time and money. Working on projects where the client had to pay for the main contractor’s mistakes and inefficiencies and still end up with poor quality homes was depressing. I was struggling to find another innovative construction company which would share my values for sustainability, quality and honesty which motivated me to set up Bow Tie Construction Ltd.”
– Rafael Delimata
We were initially inspired to be Passivhaus builders with a team of only five people. This German standard of building energy efficiency demands high quality work from the builder on every level. As it is a niche market, the company took on other new-build or refurbishment projects for clients who wanted to build their own homes to high quality.

2014

In 2014 we undertook a low-energy refurbishment of a G2 listed building on Abbey Road in Maida Vale. The contract value was £250k and this was a big milestone for us. The protected exterior placed a big focus on interior airtightness.

2015

2015 saw us refurbish a terraced Victorian house to Passive House standard, another landmark that was recognised with industry media coverage and set a new precedent for planning permission on external wall insulation of the street elevation of a building.

2016

In 2016 we completed work on John St in Bloomsbury, a £1.6M G2 listed passive house inspired project to a very high spec with many unique bespoke features of our own design. We were operating a single site at a time up to this project. We were also able to claim a R&D tax refund which marked another milestone in terms of our own progress as a company.

2021

We started of the year with a three month research and development project funded by Innovate UK. This has gone on to be used within Innovate UK as a demonstrator for how retrofit research work should be carried out. BowTieSprong was a finalist in the sustainability catergory of the constructing excellence awards. We formed a strategic partnership with Osborne Property Services Limited to co-deliver 270 Energiesprong retrofits for Sutton Housing Partnership over two years as part of the Retrofit Accelerator Homes Innovation Partnership administered by Turner & Townsend on behalf of the GLA.

Over the last 7 years we have built an experienced and innovative office team and eight (4-6 people each) site teams which are the construction equivalent of the British SAS. This approach differentiates us from other construction companies in the market who rely heavily on lowest price subcontractors who change during the job as well as from job-to-job. We have developed a network of trusted subcontractors who take ownership of their work and, like us, are passionate about their work. We provide continuity throughout our projects to guarantee quality of workmanship and knowledge and experience on site.
